John has been working with Narosa for over two years now mainly instructing surf lessons and getting involved in the kids camps. Involved in sport from an early age, John was a competitive swimmer and captained his swimming team Swilly Seals from the age 11 to 18 and adopts a ‘win at all costs’ mentality whilst competing! At college, John turned to track with 800 metres being his favourite event and has won many championships since turning to the event.
Surf Lifesaving accompanied his swimming and has won 4 national Surf Lifesaving events in both the surf and shore. This sparked his entry to surfing where he was taught by now fellow instructors Lee and Duncan at the age of 15 where his skill and love of surfing grew quickly. He got to see first-hand the Narosa way of hard work, excellent teaching styles and professionalism and adopts that now to give the customer the best surf experience and to hopefully inspire others to get involved in surfing and have fun!
John has a Level 1 surf instructor qualification from the Irish Surf Association accompanied by a beach lifeguard qualification which adds up to a great experience in the water. With a love of coaching, it is no surprise that John is studying to become a P.E teacher and promotes a ‘Fit for Life’ philosophy which goes hand in hand with the Narosa vibe.
