Surf School Assistant

Position: Full time, Fixed Term

Overview:

Always wanted to… learn the ropes and help out in a surf school?

This is a unique role for aspiring Surf Instructors who are not yet qualified, combining employed work assisting in the surf school with a voluntary internship to develop your surf coaching skills. You’ll learn the role and get essential coaching experience, whilst having responsibility for undertaking key operational tasks in the surf school.

Your Experience

 

  1. You have a keen interest in a surf coaching career, and experience working in outdoor pursuits. You’re working towards gaining your ISA qualifications and are looking to gain voluntary shadowing experience from qualified surf coaches.
  2. You’re solid when it comes to surfing. You don’t have to be a pro but you consistently catch waves and are well on your way to Level 3. 
  3. You have high energy levels and a positive outlook on life. We love to see those good vibes!
  4. You execute and get things done.
  5. You’re cool as a cucumber under pressure.
  6. You’re independent and take ownership of your responsibilities and tasks.

What you’ll be doing

The Role

 

  1. Report to the Beach Manager to fulfil key operational tasks at the beach, and back at Narosa HQ. This might involve assisting with lesson changeovers, organising rash vests & wetsuits, putting up flags, washing & preparing wetsuits.
  2. You’re warm, welcoming and always wearing a smile, developing relationships with the team & our regulars.
  3. Have the non-negotiables nailed. Punctual, well presented, reliable and organised are all part of the tone that the beach team sets.
  4. Have your equipment in check. Your gear looks immaculate at all times, so when customers arrive at the beach they’re blown away.
  5. You’re really committed to supporting an awesome team in a busy environment. You respect the systems we have in place, and are stoked to be a part of the process. You get stuck in and take ownership of your tasks.
  6. You’re focussed on developing professionally and personally, with goals to progress as a qualified Surf Instructor. You understand that you’re on the first rung of the coaching ladder, and are constantly looking to learn & improve.
